Priorities

Category :

My apologies to those of you who regularly "anticipate" and read my blog posts. There's been a distinct lack of them (blog posts) over the last 2 months, and with good reason. Let me explain ...

Some of you may know that Lynne, my wife, was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer about a year ago. Since her initial diagnosis, she has had surgery and intensive chemotherapy treatments to help her fight this horrible disease. During spring of this year, at one of Lynne's regular hospital checkups, we were told that Lynne's cancer will shorten, and ultimately, end her life sometime within the next 5-10 years.

This news has been a real blow to all of us. The life expectancy figure may seem like a long time to some, but to Lynne & I the news was devastating. How can you carry on with your life as normal, knowing full well that at some point someone you love and care deeply about will be gone. Forever.

So, you've probably figured out by now that maintaining my blog, is way down on my priority list. Maybe it will help me deal with "things" a lot better if I start to post on a regular basis again? To be honest, I don't know if it will or not. I'm not exactly feeling up to "bleeding yellow" much these days, so it's hard to post anything relevant for the community, let alone participate within it. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for listening.

Iron Man

Category :

I saw this movie on Saturday, and I'd thoroughly recommend for the "leave-your-brain-at-the-door-cinematic-rompĀ®" that it is.

If you didn't know, Iron Man is the "latest" in the long line of Marvel superheroes who has been brought to life for the big screen.

April has been a cr@p month

Category :

Apologies for the lack of content this month. A lot has been going on at work and at home, which has been the main reason for the lack of new "stuff" appearing. Once I gather my thoughts, I'll post an update soon.

Flying Penguins?

This is a rather good April 1st gag from dear old Auntie Beeb. It's also a decent punt for the BBC's iPlayer.

ILUG2008 - Speaker and Session Details

Category :

A picture named M2

The details haven't been finalised yet, as Paul & the ILUG crew are still putting the finishing touches to this years agenda, but a rough list of speakers and sessions for ILUG2008 has been published over at Paul's site. The sharp eyed amongst you may have noticed that yours truly is speaking at this years event.

Yes indeed folks, subject to final clearance and super-secret-squirrel confirmation from the ILUG2008 organisational committee, I will be presenting a session entitled "Laying down the law!" This will be my first time speaking at a Lotus User Group event, so if you ever needed an excuse for a good laugh, or heckling practice, now is your chance! In all seriousness though, I am very humbled to be part of such an incredible occasion, given the excellent line up of (other) speakers at this event.

If you want to attend, I believe that there are still some spaces left, so be quick and head on over to the ILUG2008 registrations page Today.

This isn't my pic, nor is it my Flickr stream, so kudos goes out to the original poster. I just love this interpretation of the original.

Happy Feb 29th

Category :

For those that celebrate the fact that we have an extra day this year - Happy Feb 29th 2008. For those that don't ... enjoy the extra day anyway. I just wanted to have a blog post dated 29.02.2008.

ILUG2008 - Booked

The registration confirmation email has been received, and the flights + hotel have been booked. I'll be staying at the Days Inn on Talbot Street, which is probably miles away from the conference centre, but I don't care, 'cos it's Dublin and it will be in June! I'll be arriving on the morning of Tuesday 03 June 2008. I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.
