Error:File does not exist -- after migrating a certifier to the CA Process

Category

It's been my experience in the past that whenever I've been looking for a particular O or OU certifier ID, I can never find it. It's either been stored on a network share that I don't have easy access to, or it's on a PC other than the one that I want to access. So, one of the many things I like to do as Notes & Domino admin is to remove the need for physical access to certifier ID files, and migrate them to the CA Process. It's quick, it's clean, and I can control who has access to the certifiers.

Migration to the CA process is usually a fairly simple process. However, upon trying to migrate a heavily used OU cert the other day, I received a "File does not exist" error. Thinking that I hadn't specified a proper locking ID, or worse, set the proper registration authorities, I tried several times without success to migrate this OU Cert. After much gnashing of teeth and searching on the Lotus Support website, I nailed the problem down to a missing template, icl.ntf. This template is used to create the Issued Certificates List DB when a certifier is migrated to the CA process.

It seems that my predecessor had been fairly thorough in removing templates which were deemed to be of no use, to himself or anyone else, and in doing so had removed a whole raft of them including, (you guessed it), icl.ntf. One quick replication later (from an unspoilt server) and the OU cert was migrated painlessly to the CA process.

So, the moral of this story is check that the standard templates that come with Domino server are still available on the server. Especially on the server where you want to create a new database from a template.
